Miscellaneous: August 2006 Archives

On Sunday I will be heading our for a week on the JMT with some fellow Northern CA hikers. We'll be going in at Kearsarge Pass on Sunday, and I'll be exiting at Muir Trail Ranch the next Sunday while Paige and crew exit the next day at Piute Pass. As I finalize my maps, gear list, and food plans, I keep interrupting myself to Google the amazing places I will soon be. Having a bad day at work? Google Evolution Basin, or LeConte canyon, or Muir Pass, of the Golden Staircase, or Rae Lakes, and pretend you're there. I'm sure I'll have plenty of photos of my own to contribute to the innernets when I get back.

In the meantime, prepare to be dazzled by the Field Report I have recently posted about the Light My Fire Outdoor Meal Kit. It's pretty useless for backpacking, but just gimmicky and bright colored enough to keep me from discarding it entirely. The sporky-knifey-thingee is actually pretty cool for backpacking, but its use has been trumped by my bright shiny new long handled titanium spoon from Backpackinglight.com

Oh, and last weekend we hung out with our hiker friend Theresa in a completely non-hiking way, and still had a blast. Yay for backyard parties and kayaking (but, um, not at the same time...)
