David and I met up with Steve and Tom from the Northern California hikers and did a nice overnight hike into Emigrant Wilderness. We started from the Gianelli Cabin trailhead and hiked approximately six miles into Y Meadow Lake (Dam/Reservoir). It was a nice hike that went up and over a few ridges with breathtaking views. The continuous gorgeous scenery made the hike go by quickly, and we had a nice afternoon lounging around the lake. Well, I lounged around and swam in the ice cold water while David played with his new knife and cut up firewood. The mosquitoes were bad but bearable - expected at this time of year in the Sierra. There were still regular snow patches along the trail (which rolled in between 8600-9100 ft) but it was melting fast. Photos of the hike to Y Meadow Lake are here.
Tom's trip report with photos is here.
Steve's photos are here.
For Labor Day weekend Dave and I headed out to Emigrant Wilderness for three days on the trail. It's not the best weekend for backpacking when you consider the crowds and the traffic, but it's still an opportunity to get out for more than a single night and I'll take it!
I'll put up a text report later, but for now, enjoy the pictures!
