November 25, 2006: Corridor Canyon, Death Valley

A dayhike through Corridor Canyon in Death Valley National Park with Sooz, John, Joe, Kathy, and Tom. The canyon had a bit of everything - it started near the ruins of an old mine, passed through a fossil-rich zone, had some relatively untouched petroglyphs, required some scrambling up and down smooth dry falls, squeezed us through some tight narrows, and spit us out in a ~2/3 mile long straight canyon (the 'Corridor'). This is the best canyon hike I've done, and the company was great, too!

Teakettle Junction

Teakettle Junction

A necessary photo stop in the middle of the desert. There was a creeeepy glass head filled with what looked like ashes at the base of the sign. I'll stick to teakettles, thanks.

The collapsed cabin

The collapsed cabin

I think when we were here around 3-4 years ago the cabin was still standing, and I remember thinking that it looked like it would fall down at any moment.

Fossils again

Fossils again

When we walked past this boulder we saw that it was covered in fossils. We spent a while looking through the area - nearly every rock was covered in them!

Right after the fossil deposits we started into a narrower section where the smooth rock appeared.
